As Local Government continues to face the challenges of austerity and reduced funding, where some councils have reduced services here at Stevenage we continue to do the things that matter to our residents and us. Through strong leadership and a focused strategy, Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) has a clear plan to steer itself to a balanced budget through it’s Financial Security priority and has a realistic view of its future financial challenges. The Council understands the benefits of having a highly skilled and motivated workforce, and retaining frontline services. We are also developing funding headroom to invest in property and assets and creating a town that businesses want to locate and invest in. The new senior members of our Finance team will be presented with a fantastic opportunity to deliver real change for the citizens of Stevenage and gain experience of supporting on the varied and challenging schemes including regeneration of our town building homes for our tenants.
We are clear what is needed to achieve this for our residents, because they have told us and our politicians have set a clear prioritised programme to deliver. The transformation of our town and Council is encapsulated in a programme made up of nine priorities, named ‘Future Town, Future Council’.
Included in this five year programme are plans to regenerate the town centre, provide housing that works for all, make services more accessible through new technologies, and invest in our town’s neighbourhoods. To help us deliver our promises, we are continually reviewing how we can work differently to deliver better value for money, remain an attractive employer and ensure our services are the best they can be.
